90 Days to Live

The Bible tells us “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Psalm 90:12 ESV

In today’s fast paced world, it’s easy to lose ourselves in the patterns of everyday life. Days run into weeks which fall into months that slip into years. Too many times we wake up only to realize how many days we’ve wasted simply being busy. What we often times don’t realize is that two very dangerous things happen when we let our days slip away.

First
When we no longer keep track of our days we find ourselves becoming sloppy with our lives. We cheat our employers, our families and ourselves out of the perfect life. You’re probably thinking, “There is no perfect life” and that’s right. But like Vince Lombardi said, “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.” Excellence in all that we do should always be the goal of our lives.

Second
when we lose track of our days and excellence falls to the wayside, we have a natural tendency to get behind in the things that should really matter. We unwittingly create silos in our lives that wall us in and keep us from living the life that we have been called to.

Challenge
For the next 90 days examine the areas of your life where you lack excellence and improve on them.

  • If you were to die on Day 91 do the people closest to you know what to do?
  • Is your work done with such excellence that if you died the next person who held your position could carry on the tasks without missing a beat?
  • If you felt God’s prompting to do something GREAT, something BIG – could you do it or are you saddled with responsibilities and stacks of to-do lists?
  • What can you do to prepare your loved ones and your work if you are no longer around?

What would you do if you only had 90 days to live?
